The New Way To Watch TV: Internet-Based TV From DISH

Now that DISH has partnered with Artemis to create pCell technology, it won’t be long until the satellite TV company makes a move at offering Internet-based TV service. DISH is actually setting a summer debut for the live-streaming service. Last month, DISH and Walt Disney Co. came to an agreement over Internet-TV rights and DISH has also been in similar talks with A&E Television Networks LLC, Time Warner Inc.’s Turner Broadcasting and CBS Corp. The deal with Disney includes ABC, ESPN and Disney Channel which means DISH only needs to sign one more major local broadcast network (CBS, Fox, or NBC) in order to meet the requests of the largest content providers who are looking at potentially signing a deal with DISH. The other providers also want the package to include at least 10 of the highest-rated cable networks. Merger Update: Internet Company to “Sell” Time Warner Customers

Comcast has announced via blog post that if the merger with Time Warner Cable is approved, they have agreed to “sell” 3.9 million customers to avoid any monopolistic results due to the merger. The agreement states 1.4 million Time Warner customers would be sold to Charter Communications while the other 2.5 million customers in Midwest and South regions will be absorbed into a new, independent, publicly traded company. Charter would own one-third of the new company, referred to as “SpinCo.” A decision on the merger isn’t expected until the end of 2014, but the announcement comes right before the next House Judiciary Committee meeting which is scheduled for May 8. The agreement may be viewed as an attempt to try and improve Comcast’s image among the public who may have monopolistic concerns, but it more than likely won’t affect the opinions and concerns of the merger’s critics.

Time Warner Cable’s Unexplained Rate Hikes

Time Warner Cable has been in the spotlight lately with talks of a potential merger with Comcast, but now the company is making headlines for a less exciting reason – price hikes. One customer has reported receiving an $11 increase on their latest bill and this is alarming customers because of the fact that the merger hasn’t happened yet. Time Warner has also sent out letters to customers who receive statements in the mail, praising the benefits their customers will receive once the two companies merge. Critics of the proposed merger have voiced the concern of prices increasing if they are allowed to merge with Comcast and it seems as though that concern has already been validated. Nike’s World Cup Ad Doesn’t Even Mention “The World Cup”

The World Cup is one of the biggest events in the world and it just so happens to be one of the most difficult to advertise. With very strict advertising guidelines from both FIFA and Univision, who will be broadcasting the summer showdown, there is very little left for advertisers to actually use in their ads – even if it is trying to promote the tournament. But leave it to the geniuses on Nike’s advertising team to not only produce an ad without mentioning the World Cup, but to create an ad that conveys a sense of hype for it at the same time. The ad not only stars some of the biggest names in soccer (Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney just to name a few), but it also features cameos from some unexpected stars. Check it out for yourself below! Be a part of this summer’s showdown with a sports package! Click here for the best deals on sport packages!

Speeds Faster Than 4G Possible With DISH And Artemis

DISH and Artemis are partnering up to make cell phone internet speeds 1,000 times faster than 4G. Artemis is a startup company, founded in 2011, who has been working on pCell – advancing 4G and LTE together. The pCell technology would solve the issue of cell service getting bogged down in highly populated areas such as NYC, sporting events, concerts, etc. The idea is to replace the current cell towers method of a few towers serving a big area with a completely 180 degree approach – deploy a massive number of boxes called “pWaves” that will provide much better service to smaller areas. Read more about the technology here. This is a pretty strategic move by DISH who is “rumored” to be working on providing TV service through the H-block of spectrum they’ve recently purchased. If Artemis is able to accomplish this new pCell technology, DISH would then be able to offer TV service quickly over the “pWaves” and likely not require a satellite dish for the signal.
